What to Bring on a Miami Yacht Charter

A day on a yacht in Miami is easy to plan, but a few small things make a big difference. Here is what to bring, what to leave at home, and what is usually already on board.

The essentials

  • Reef-safe sunscreen and a hat. The sun on the water is stronger than it feels, especially at the sandbar.
  • Sunglasses, ideally polarized.
  • Swimwear and a cover-up. Most groups swim at least once.
  • A light layer for the ride back, when the breeze picks up after sunset.
  • Photo ID for every guest.
  • A soft bag instead of a hard suitcase. Storage on board is limited.

Shoes: less is more

Most yachts ask guests to go barefoot on deck to protect the teak and keep everyone steady. Bring sandals for the walk on the dock and leave heels and hard-soled shoes in the car.

Food and drinks

What is included varies by yacht. Some include water, soft drinks and ice; many allow you to bring your own drinks; others prefer catering arranged in advance. We confirm the policy for your yacht before the day and can arrange catering, from light bites to a full lunch, so there is nothing to carry.

What to leave behind

  • Glass bottles, unless the crew has said they are fine. Plastic and cans are safer on deck.
  • Red wine and dark drinks on light upholstery, if you can avoid it.
  • Confetti, glitter and candles. Most yachts don't allow them; ask us about decorations that are approved.

What is usually on board

Every charter includes a professional captain and crew. Towels, a sound system and water toys are common on the yachts we book, but the exact list varies, so check your yacht's page or ask your advisor.

A note on gratuity and extras

Gratuity, tax, catering, an APA (an advance for running costs such as fuel and dockage) and a repositioning fee for pickups north of Miami are itemized in your quote, so you know the full cost before you book. Compare yachts and prices on our Miami Yacht Charter and Yacht Rental Cost pages.
